Deep Thoughts by Jace

March 26, 2011 2:25 pm

At the Boston Children’s Museum with the Motl-Lowes, Jace sits on a bench at a second floor window, looks out over the water with the city spread out before him, sighs deeply, and says, “I feel like I can see my whole life…”

The lady next to him cracks up laughing.

Stephen King

Luckily there was no sign of Jack Nicholson anywhere nearby, but it did feel a little spooky when Jace said, “Daddy, you can’t stop the Shining, nobody can stop the Shining! I have the Shining so I can see in the darkness!”

[I had complained that he was shining his flashlight in my eyes]

Winter Sports

Last summer Jace spent lots of time kicking a soccer ball, learning how to hit a baseball, learning to ride a scooter and pedal a trike. Great activities for burning off a little toddler energy. But what do you do when there is 4 feet of snow on the ground and you have a very small house?
Well, last winter we gave skiing a try and that was fun but not overly convenient or cheap. We certainly did a little sledding this winter but one needs some variety…
So Jace got to try snowshoeing

And iceskating

You would be amazed at this kid. He took off on the snow shoes before I even managed to get mine strapped on! And by his third time ice skating, I could let go of his arm and he managed to make it to me without falling over. Next weekend we are going skiing again. What other winter sports should we try?
